Pluribus Unum" A Mural At The Lexington Market, Baltimore by

Full color 32 page booklet explaining the symbolism within this 100 foot long 1984 mural. In 1975 Dr. Hieronimus was contracted to design a mural depicting the Lexington Market's impending 200 year history and some of the famous who dined there throughout its history. The work won him critical acclaim as "one of this country's best muralists." Renovations to the market required that a new mural be created and in 1984 "E Pluribus Unum" was completed, with additional themes added such as the Inner Harbor as it was in 1752 and as it is today, Oriole baseball greats, famous Baltimore watercraft and the possible Atlantean origins of Baltimore. The Lexington Market Mural contains major and minor themes which are echoed in the color symbolism. A knowledge of its themes and an interpretation of its symbols and elements is helpful, meaningful and interesting. "E Pluribus Unum" is the dominant theme of the Market Mural. It means "Out of the many, One" and is found on the front of America's Great Seal. In 1776 it referred to the manyness (13) of the original states forming One Union. It can also mean the manyness of the material world is transcended by the Unity of the spiritual world. For instance, we may be Baltimoreans, but we are also Marylanders, Americans, Occidentals (Westerners) as well as earth people. We are different but we are One humankind. Thus unity springs from diversity.

Bob Hieronimus began work on "The Apocalypse" on August 25, 1968 and completed it on February 25, 1969. It was refurbished in 1974 and again in 1980. Maryland Public Television documented "The Apocalypse" and several other Hieronimus murals in their half hour production "Artist of Savitria" in 1971 which has aired repeatedly nationwide on PBS. Many of the prophetic themes in The Apocalypse's 2,700 square feet have materialized: the end of the Cold War, the rise of the corporate state, the decline of the American Republic, earth and weather changes, and the sightings of UFOs. A portrait of Ahkenaton and a reproduction of the Tut-Ankh-Amen throne chair, as well as depictions of Thutmose III, the Denderah Zodiac, the weighing of the souls drama line the walls and starred (sbas) ceiling of the meditation room. for Montserrat" Program Guide
Concert Program Book for the Rock and Roll Fundraising Concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
Beatles producer Sir George Martin drew worldwide attention to the plight of the inhabitants of volcanic-stricken Montserrat island in September 1997 with a star-studded charity concert. This is a very rare, highly collectible quality publication of 60 pages of color and varying texture. Articles and photographs include those central to and performing in the concert: Sir George Martin, Alphonsus "Arrow" Cassell, Jimmy Buffett, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Elton John, Mark Knopfler, Sir Paul McCartney, Carl Perkins, Sting, Midge Ure, AIR Studios.
Our favorite is on page 54 (opposite the list of artists performing that night) where there is a full page display for Hieronimus & Co.'s 21st Century Radio and TV News, pictured here. The top half depicts the Cydonia region on Mars showing the Face and other unusual surface features on Mars. The bottom half depicts 21st Century Radio's usual suspects: UFOs (triangular, cigar shaped and disks), Tesla's power station, ETs, Bigfoot, living dinosaurs, and the unfinished pyramid and the eye in the triangle symbols found on the reverse of America's Great Seal.
Hieronimus & Co. joined forces with Sir George and Lady Judy Martin to raise funds for Montserrat and local charities. Sir George wrote to us that with the monies raised "We have decided to allocate funds to the old people's home that is so badly needed, a new school that is being developed, and to begin the development of a playing facility for the young. We have been inundated with requests for aid, and we are gradually getting through to many people. This charity has become our personal mission, and we are doing all we can to give help where it is needed."
On
February 24, 1998 Hieronimus & Co. organized our own fundraising effort
which was broadcast with from Baltimore's Hard Rock Cafe and included a concert
with local Baltimore band, "Love Riot." Collections of rock and roll
memorabilia from The Beatles, Beatles Anthology, Bob and Ziggy and Rita Marley,
Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Elton John, etc. were auctioned and sold
by Hieronimus & Co. with 100% of the proceeds being divided evenly between
the Volcanic Relief Fund for Montserrat created by Sir George and Lady Judy
Martin and our local Baltimore Environmental Crisis Center.
