Dr. Bob Hieronimus' opening presentation "Lost Symbols Found"
Artcars = Moving Billboards (60) This is an artcar I painted in 1967 that I named “Old Smoke”. It’s covered with the symbols I used to stand for the forces blinding the American into thinking that the material world is all that exists. You’ll see these same symbols repeated in a number of the posters on exhibit here tonight. Coke (for non-nutritional food), Mom (an acronym for Mother of Matter), General Motors and tiger stripes (for the combustion engine). No matter how many times I correct them, the media continues to label my work “psychedelic”!
